Putting the Face of a 266-Year-Old Man on National Tourism Week
May 18, 2009

On May 11th, more than two dozen Sonoma County businesses celebrated National Tourism Week by “making change” with a total of $25,000 in $2 bills.  Trust me, that’s a lot of two-dollar bills.

As the rarely-seen bills, bearing the portrait of Thomas Jefferson (hence the “SpendTom.com” tag), make their way through the community and beyond, they will act as a reminder of the scope and economic impact of the tourism industry in Sonoma County.

For an industry that often feels like Rodney “I don’t get no respect” Dangerfield, this is a tangible means of communicating our economic muscle.

New media is driving much of the “SpendTom” effort.  Twitter, Facebook, You-Tube and a good old-fashioned website links are all provided below:

Congrats to all the folks at the California Travel and Tourism Commission (Caroline Beteta, Susan Wilcox, Amanda Moreland, Jeanne Sullivan, Tim Lowery) and the Sonoma County CVB (Ken Fischang, Tim Zahner) as well as my DCI Colleagues (Malcolm Griffiths, Peggy Bendel and Brittani Wood) who worked so hard on this effort!!!

Just blowing some free time on Stumbleupon and I found your entry. Not typically what I like to read about, but it was certainly worth my time. Thanks.

Very informative article. I've found your site via Google and I'm really glad about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your blogs layout is really broken on the Chrome browser. Would be cool if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the great work!
